위의 이유들로 어떤 코덱팩을 설치하느냐를 결정하는 것은 매우 중요한 일이라고 할 수 있습니다.
그래서 이번 글에서는 제가 여태껏 사용해본 코덱팩들 중 가장 깔끔하고 안전하며 다양한 코덱을 포함하고 있는 코덱팩을 알려드리도록 하겠습니다.
이 유틸의 간략한 소개
이름 : K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (케이라이트 메가 코덱팩)
제조국 : 외산(미국 쪽?)
한글 지원 여부 : 지원안함 (영어가 지원이 되니 상관 없을 듯)
특징 1 : 현재까지 가장 많은 코덱을 포함하고 있는 것으로 생각됨.
특징 2 : 깨진 코덱을 탐지, 삭제한 뒤 깨끗하게 다시 설치해 줌.
특징 3 : Media Player Classic을 같이 설치할 수 있음(비추천)
지원운영체제 : Microsoft Windows 2000/ME/2003/XP/VISTA/7 (64Bit버전도 따로 제공되고 있음)

운영자가 소개하는 최적의 설치법
1. 일단 설치 파일을 다운로드 받아서 실행해줍시다. 아래와 같은 화면이 뜨게 됩니다.
2. [Next]버튼을 눌러줍시다.
3. 사용자 계약권 같은 것을 설명해주는 부분이나, 여기 있는 글을 다 정독해보시는 독종 네티즌분들은.... 없다고 가정하겠습니다;; [Next]버튼 클릭!
4. 설치 경로를 지정해 주는 부분입니다. 보통의 사용자 분들은 그냥 [Next]버튼을 클릭해주시고, 만약 다른 폴더에 설치하고 싶으신 별난 분들은 [Browse]버튼을 눌러 경로를 지정해 주시면 됩니다.
5. 설치할 요소들을 지정해 주는 부분입니다. 가장 중요한 부분이라 할 수 있겠습니다.
이 부분은 사진에 항목을 정하여 설명드리겠습니다.
1) 기본설정으로 설치합니다.
2) 기본설정으로 설치하되, 미디어 플레이어 클래식은 설치하지 않습니다.
3) 재생만 할 분만 누르세요.
4) 재생만 할 분만 누르시되 플레이어 설치를 원치 않는 분만 누르세요.
5) 그냥 보통설정입니다.
6) 보통설정으로 설치하되, 플레이어 설치는 하지 않습니다
7) 설치할 수 있는 최대의 종류&양 코덱을 설치합니다. 인코딩 환경에도 최적화됩니다.
8) 설치할 수 있는 최대의 종류&양 코덱을 설치하되, 플레이어는 설치하지 않습니다.(추천!)
9) 필요한 하드디스크 공간을 알려주고 있네요.
6. 시작메뉴 폴더 이름을 지정해 주는 부분입니다. 별로 설명할 필요를 못 느끼겠군요.

7. 부가설정을 해주는 부분이 나오게 되는군요.
음. 너무 기네요. 귀찮습니다. 넘어가도록 하지요.
정 아쉽다면 한가지 알려드리지요.
요즘 멀티코어를 사용하시는 분들이 많아지는 관계로 알려드립니다.
스크롤바를 아래의 스샷에서 보이는 정도로 내려주시게 되면, [Advanced ffdshow cofiguration]이라는 부분이 있습니다.
여기서 첫 번째 항목인 [Use experimental multi-threaded H.264 decoder]에 체크를 해주게 되면 멀티코어를 쓰시는 분들이 H.264코덱으로 인코딩된 동영상을 재생(디코딩)할 때 멀티코어를 잘 사용하여 더욱 쾌적한 환경을 만들도록 해줍니다.
그 다음, [Next]버튼을 클릭해줍시다.
8. 설치할 항목들이 제대로 설정되었는가를 마지막으로 확인하는 단계입니다.
확인을 다 하셨으면 [Install]버튼 클릭!
9. 설치가 되고 있으며, 진행률 그래프가 나오는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.
9+. 깨진 코덱이 있으면 찾아내어 정상적으로 다시 설치해주는 기능이 있다고 했죠?
제 컴퓨터에도 깨진 코덱이 있었답니다.
깨진 코덱이 발견되면, [9]과정 중에 아래 스샷과 같은 메시지가 나오게 됩니다.
모르는 글자 막 나온다고 무서워하지 마시고 [예(Y)]버튼을 눌러줍시다.
10. 드디어 설치가 완료되었습니다. [Finish]버튼을 눌러 설치를 완료시키고, 혹시를 대비해서 컴퓨터를 한번 껏다 켜주면 완료~!

The basic
variant contains everything you need to play all the common video file formats.

no-nonsense pack.
The standard variant contains some additional features
compared to the basic variant. It contains Media Player Classic, which is an
excellent player for video files. It also has (better) support for playback of
DVDs. This pack is recommended for the average user.
The full
variant has many additional features. It supports playback of several (lossless)
audio formats. It contains VFW/ACM codecs that can be used for encoding. It has
playback support for a few legacy audio and video formats. This package is
suitable for power users.
The corporate
variant is a special version for use in a corporate environment. It is
similar to the full variant, minus a few items, but almost just as powerful. It
has a strong focus on open source software.
The mega
variant has almost the same contents as the full variant, but additionally
contains Real Alternative and some
extra VFW/ACM codecs.
